El Dí a De Los Muertos 2016

Teatro Paraguas and Santa Fe Danceworks will present the third annual

El Día de los Muertos Community Celebration on October 29th and 30th, 2016.

The Celebration begins on Saturday October 30th at 7:30 pm with performances on the Teatro Paraguas stage, which include actors reading Spanish and Spanglish poetry selected for the occasion, and live music performed by Melange and Lone Piñon. Thelma Arguello has composed original Calaveras, traditional and satirical poems performed with music, which poke fun at current events. Israel Haros Lopez returns with his take on Chicanismo, and the Teatro Paraguas Teen Actors will perform a short play entitled Doña Sebastiana (la muerte misma). Dancers from Santa Fe Danceworks will perform Ballet Folclorico, and special guest performers from Katiria Drag Queen Show will round out the evening. Santa Fe Danceworks will provide activities for children during the performances. Admission is by donation.

On Sunday afternoon the Celebration moves next door to Santa Fe Danceworks. The public is invited to bring photographs and mementos for a Community Altar to honor los antepasados. A community feast will be provided. Aztec and Zumba dancers will be present, and Los Niños de Santa Fe will perform Ballet Folclorico. Teatro Paraguas Teen Actors present El Cuento de la Culebra Ingrata (The Story of the Ungrateful Snake). A contest will be held to choose the finest-looking Katrinas, and a Raffle as well.DJ Ricky spins the sounds for El Baile late into the evening.

Tickets are $10, or four tickets for $25, and may be purchased in advance at Alicia’s Tortilleria (1314 Rufina Circle) and Tres Colores Restaurant (8380 Cerrillos Rd.), as well as Santa Fe Danceworks and Teatro Paraguas.
