Argos MacCallum reads Machado’s poetry.
Antonio Machado (1875-1939) is considered one of the finest Spanish poets of the 20th century, along with Federico Garcia Lorca and Miguel Hernandez. An actor, playwright, translator, and teacher, Machado’s early elaborate modernist poetry was transformed by the death of his young wife Leonore into a simple and sublime regard for both humanity and nature. Forced to escape to France by Franco’s army during the Spanish Civil War, Machado died of exposure as well as heartbreak for his beloved Spain.
Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door, and $20 for seniors and students. Reservations may be made at 505-424-1601. Teatro Paraguas is located at 3205 Calle Marie in Santa Fe.
This project is made possible in part by NM Arts/NM Dept. of Culture, and the Santa Fe Community Foundation.
